Reflexologist
Duties and Responsibilities:Reflexology is a massage-based form of alternative medicine that focuses on the hands and feet. Reflexologists believe that stimulating pressure points can release tension and stress throughout the entire body. Natural Healers reports that reflexologists earn roughly the same as other massage therapists. In 2012, massage therapists had a mean annual salary of approximately $40,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS predicted that employment opportunities for massage therapists would grow 20 percent from 2010 to 2020.
Salary:$39,760
Education:Aspiring reflexologists attend certificate or associate degree programs in massage therapy with an emphasis in reflexology. To qualify for certification, students must have at least 110 hours of study in reflexology. Courses cover a wide variety of topics, including anatomy, foot mapping, reflexology history, reflexology theory and business practices. Students spend at least 10 hours working directly with patients in a clinical setting -- while under the supervision of an experienced reflexologist. This allows them to observe and try massage techniques before working on their own.
